About this edition
In 1675, in a small Visitation convent at Paray-le-Monial, Our Lord opened His Sacred Heart to a hidden nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque, and gave to the whole Church the devotion of His Heart, the practice of the First Fridays, and the Twelve Promises of His love.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus gathers those Twelve Promises into a retreat. One by one, each Promise is opened slowly: an invocation from the Litany of the Sacred Heart, the Promise itself, and then the words of St. Margaret Mary in her own voice, drawn from the public domain Life that preserves her memoir, before turning to what the Promise asks of us today, a word of Scripture, a question to carry, and a prayer.
