Before he became a bishop and a Doctor of the Church, Augustine of Hippo was a young man of great gifts and greater appetites, who spent his youth seeking happiness in everything but God. The Confessions is the record of that long wandering and its end.

Written throughout as a prayer addressed to God, its thirteen Books move from the thefts of his boyhood, through his years of ambition and error, to his conversion in a garden at Milan and the death of his mother Monica, and on to a meditation upon memory, time, and creation. For sixteen centuries it has been read as the truest portrait of a soul in search of God.

This Sanctified Souls Press edition sets the complete text in the classic translation of E. B. Pusey, published in 1838, on cream paper, for reading and keeping.
