St. Richard the Pilgrim — Richard of Wessex — left his Saxon home on pilgrimage and died at Lucca on the way to Rome, while his children Willibald, Winnibald, and Walburga went on to evangelize Germany. He never reached the shrines he sought; he had been raising saints all along.
