St. Martha Wang Luo Mande cooked for seminarians, carried letters to the imprisoned, and when she was caught serving the condemned, joined them gladly, beheaded at Qingyan in 1861. Among the Martyrs of China she is the grandmother figure: the one who kept everyone fed right up to the gates of heaven.
