A second original from our studio of the deacon who gave Rome its poor as treasure. St. Lawrence guarded the Church's goods and spent them on the needy before the prefect could seize them, then went to the gridiron with a joke on his lips and heaven in his eyes. Few saints have died so bravely, or so cheerfully.
