In 1373, gravely ill and gazing upon a crucifix, a young Englishwoman received sixteen showings of the love of God in the Passion of Christ. She recovered, and lived out her life as an anchoress enclosed beside the church of Saint Julian at Norwich, pondering for twenty years what she had seen. The Revelations of Divine Love is the fruit of that pondering, and the first book known to have been written in English by a woman.

Julian's theme is at once simple and unfathomable: that love is the whole meaning of what God has done. Against sin, against suffering, against the hiddenness of God, she returns always to the words that were spoken to her, that all shall be well.

This Sanctified Souls Press edition presents the complete text of the sixteen Revelations in Grace Warrack's 1901 translation, the version that first gave Julian to modern readers. Newly set in Crimson Pro and Cinzel, on cream paper, for reading and keeping.
