About this edition
Saint John Chrysostom (c. 347–407), Archbishop of Constantinople, was surnamed Chrysostom, the golden-mouthed, for the eloquence of his preaching, and is the most beloved of the Greek Fathers as an interpreter of Holy Scripture.
These homilies on the Fourth Gospel are a sustained exposition of the divinity of the Word, preached at Antioch and following Saint John from the opening vision of the Word who was God to the Passion and the Resurrection. In Chrysostom doctrine and daily life are never divided: each homily closes in the plain duties of prayer, almsgiving, and charity.
This Sanctified Souls Press edition gathers the homilies complete, eighty-eight in all, in the public-domain English of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers. The single work is issued in two volumes on account of its length.
The volumes
Saint John 1 to 6: In the beginning was the Word, the witness of the Baptist, the marriage at Cana, Nicodemus, the woman at the well, and the bread of life. Paperback and hardcover, 372 pages.
Saint John 6 to 21: the good shepherd, the raising of Lazarus, the washing of the feet, the discourse at the Supper and the high-priestly prayer, and the Passion and the Resurrection. Paperback and hardcover, 366 pages.
