She lived twenty-five years, most of them hidden, and loved the Crucified with a love that marked her body. St. Gemma Galgani, the Passion Flower of Lucca, spoke with Our Lord and His Mother as a child speaks with her own, conversed with her Guardian Angel, and bore in her flesh the weekly wounds of the Cross. She sought none of it, feared much of it, and hid all she could.

Flos Passionis sets her wonders gently aside and listens, over fourteen days, to her voice, drawn from her autobiography, letters, and ecstasies as preserved in the public-domain Life by Venerable Fr. Germanus, C.P. Each day opens with a line of Gemma's own, a setting, and her words at length, then turns to what they ask of us today, a word of Scripture, a question to carry, and a prayer.
