Saint Anselm of Canterbury, monk, abbot, archbishop and Doctor of the Church, gave Christian thought a phrase it has never surrendered: faith seeking understanding.

Faith Seeking Understanding gathers Anselm's own prayers and meditations, in the faithful public domain English of 1872, into a fourteen-day retreat. Each day sets a theme of the interior life beside the saint's own words, a passage of Sacred Scripture, a space to dwell, and a prayer. The reader is carried from being made for God, through the compassion of Christ and the mystery of the Incarnation, to the royal way of the Cross and the blessed vision of God.
