Jean-Pierre de Caussade, a Jesuit of eighteenth-century France, gave the interior life its simplest and most freeing rule. God comes to the soul in the duty of the present moment, in whatever this hour asks and whatever it sends, and He asks in return one thing only: a loving surrender of the will. De Caussade called this abandonment, and he called the present moment a sacrament, because God gives Himself through it as truly as through any outward sign.

This Sanctified Souls Press edition presents the complete work, both parts: his treatise on the virtue and the state of abandonment, and his letters of spiritual direction to souls whom God was leading by this hidden road. Set in the English translation E. J. Strickland prepared in 1921. Newly typeset in Crimson Pro and Cinzel, on cream paper, for reading and keeping.
