About this edition
On Mount Carmel, where the prophet Elijah watched a little cloud rise from the sea, the Church has long honoured Mary as the Beauty and Mother of Carmel. To her children she gave the Brown Scapular, not a charm but a sign of her motherly care and a pledge of her protection.
A Cord Between Heaven and Earth prays into that care over nine days, toward her feast on the sixteenth of July, in the words of the traditional novena. It is a guided retreat, not a plain reprint: for each day, a word of Scripture, a reflection, a voice from the saints of Carmel, Elijah, Teresa of Ávila, John of the Cross and Thérèse, and the traditional novena prayer.
