Saint Thérèse of Lisieux - Sanctified Souls print

St. Thérèse and the Little Way

The Little Flower bloomed quietly in the garden of God — small and hidden, yet radiant with the fragrance of heaven. From the cloister of Carmel, St. Thérèse of Lisieux offered her life in small duties embraced with joy, and taught the Church that sanctity is not found in grand deeds but in childlike trust and simple acts done with great love.

Love at the heart of the Church

She wrote in Story of a Soul of her desire to be love at the heart of the Church — and that is what she became. Though she never left her cloister, her love became missionary, reaching the ends of the earth; the Church names her patroness of the missions alongside Francis Xavier, who crossed oceans she never saw.

The shower of roses

She promised, “After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses” — and the world has seen it fulfilled in answered prayers, conversions, and miracles. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope St. John Paul II in 1997, only the third woman so honored, she remains the saint of the ordinary made holy.

Keeping her feast

Do one hidden act of love on October 1st and tell no one — that is the Little Way, kept exactly as she taught it. If you'd like to walk it daily, our free app The Little Way carries her Morning Offerings, a 365-day devotion, and the Shower of Roses Novena. And her face, full of that hidden joy, waits in our St. Thérèse print.

St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, little and great — let fall your roses on us.
